Display / Copy Only

Piece for 5 dancers playing with the concepts of copy and original

For the symbolic price of one euro, Joanne Leighton acquired the reproduction and/or transformation rights for a series of choreographic works created by 11 choreographers and architects. This ‘second-hand’ material serves as the foundation for an original performance.

The title, Display/Copy Only, refers to an exhibition model—a facsimile of a real object, but not the object itself to be acquired. A quintet of men, the piece explores the duality between copy and original, appropriation and original creation, authenticity and imitation.
